Kapaʻau Vacation Rentals

At the northern tip of Hawaiʻi Island, adjacent to the tiny town of Hāwī, is the tiny town of Kapaʻau. The area is something of an artists’ enclave, as the high number of galleries will attest. Kapaʻau is also very near the birthplace of King Kamehameha, and the original statue honoring him is in the center of town. It’s a quaint town with a gorgeously perfect climate, ocean views, and fresh breezes. Come stay in one of our great Kapaʻau rentals, and explore North Kohala! Find out about the vacation home rentals in Hawaii below:

North Kohala is right at the tip of the island, where leeward meets windward sides. This means that if you go a few miles west, you’ll be in a hotter, drier climate, and if you go a few miles east, you’ll find yourself in a lush rainforest zone. This area is absolutely prime for whale watching in the winter, as the whales pass offshore between here and Maui. North Kohala district is also known for its community’s devotion to locally produced food and sustainable lifestyles, so you’ll find a great farmers’ market and restaurants, as well as Hawaiʻi’s “greenest” public library (with solar panels and windmills).

There are some incredible treasures to be found in the little galleries and shops around Kapaʻau. Those interested in hand-crafted, truly Hawaiian souvenirs and wood carvings should check out Vea Polynesian Gifts, and art enthusiasts will enjoy Ackerman Galleries. If you love animals, and would like to learn more about local efforts to rescue and rehabilitate them, particularly endangered ones, consider a visit to the Hawaiʻi Wildlife Center in Kapaʻau. They welcome visitors, and have an excellent small exhibit, which is free.
