Wailua Falls

Wailua Falls, located in the east coast town of Wailua, is at once one of Kauai’s most spectacular waterfalls and one of the easiest to access. The viewing area is adjacent to the parking lot, meaning no hike for miles over a muddy trail to see this gem. In addition, the viewing area puts you right near the top of the falls, unlike other falls where you’re viewing them from a distance. This 173-foot cascade is particularly beautiful when the sunlight hits it just right, forming a rainbow that extends from the base and creates fantastic photo opportunities.
Waip’o Falls
For its dramatic setting
Waipo’o Falls is situated in the Waimea Canyon, known as the Grand Canyon of the Pacific. Its location tucked in this ten-mile-long, 3,000-foot-deep canyon makes it inaccessible to get to at a close vantage point. However, even viewing it from lookout points on the way up Hwy 550, the grandeur of this 800-foot cascade is evident. Hiking the Canyon Trail along the Waimea Canyon rim will take you to the top of the falls. While this is a beautiful hike and you can take a dip in a small pool at the top of the falls, the waterfall is not actually visible, but the canyon views are worth the trek.
