Magic By The Sea: Kauai’s North Shore
The North Shore town of Princeville and the quaint village of Hanalei are both excellent places to stay during your visit to Kaua‘i. Hanalei Bay, lovingly embraced by towering cliffs, is a perfect beach to spend a day with the entire family. Life here in one of our condos in Kauai Hawaii is slower paced and serene, and you’ll find your troubles magically drifting away. The long, consistent waves make this an ideal spot for beginning surfers, and several outfitters in the area make lessons easy and convenient. Enjoy a stroll along this two-mile stretch of sand or out onto the iconic fishing pier, where locals can be seen leaping into the turquoise water below. The charming beach town of Hanalei offers laid back shops and restaurants reminiscent of small-town, seaside living. Elsewhere on the North Shore, you can explore some of the most scenic beaches on Earth (though always check conditions, winter waves are quite large here). Tunnels Beach, Polihale State Park, and Lumahai Beach are some of our all-time favorite places to take a picnic, a camera, and your favorite people.
Kaua‘i truly is what was meant by the word “awesome.” The soaring cliffs of the North Coast, splashed with unbelievable hues of reds, greens, and browns, hide mysterious valleys, hidden waterfalls, and secret beaches. They can be experienced on foot via one of the world’s best hiking trails (the 22-mile Kalalau Trail), by sea from a sailboat or kayak tour, or by helicopter tour from Līhu‘e or Honolulu.
The Sunny South Shore
The beautiful resort area of Poipu is located on the island’s sunny south shore. Poipu Beach Park has been named one of the most beautiful beaches in the world, and here you can choose to relax on the golden sand or take part in one of the many water activities available. Snorkel among green sea turtles and vibrant tropical fish, explore a small offshore island, try your hand at surfing or paddle boarding, or splash with your keiki (children) in the shallow east end of the beach. This lifeguarded beach with full facilities is perfect for beach-goers of all ages.
