The Festival of Lights tradition was created over 50 years ago by “Auntie Josie,” who would turn trash into treasure and decorate her Kapa’a home inside and out for the entire community to enjoy during Christmastime. Upon her death in 2009, her tremendous collection of handmade holiday decorations was donated to Kaua‘i County. Auntie Josie’s beautiful and generous tradition is continued at the County Building on Rice Street in Lihu‘e. Be sure to bring the kids to meet Mr. and Mrs. Claus!
