Let’s face it: for a lot of people, vacation means kicking back and relaxing with a drink, or maybe staying out late dancing at clubs with friends. Though Kauaʻi is pretty laid-back, you’ll still be able to find a bit of nightlife if you look (island-style, of course!). Check out the best bars on Kauai
Tahiti Nui – Hanalei
This is it: the original, the first, and the best bar on the North Shore of Kauaʻi. Did you see the George Clooney movie, The Descendants? That’s Tahiti Nui. It’s the place you’ll always want to come back to when you visit Kauaʻi, and you’ll never know who you might run into there. With great pizza, live music, and a relaxed atmosphere, you’ll feel right at home. If you’ve been hoping for an authentic lūʻau experience during your Kauaʻi trip, make sure to reserve a spot at Tahiti Nui’s Wednesday family lūʻau night. You can’t get a more authentic version than this, with amazing food and great live entertainment!
Bar Acuda – Hanalei
While you’re in Hanalei, check out Bar Acuda, a rare sight in a rural town: a classy tapas bar with a wide variety of delicious global wines. The accompanying restaurant offers great locally-sourced food with a Mediterranean flair (if you’re going to dine, make reservations, because they get busy!). Seating is open-air but covered, which is lovely and refreshing in the evening.
Stevenson’s Sushi and Spirits, Grand Hyatt – Poʻipū
This luxury nightspot offers a beautiful setting in which to enjoy delectable sushi and an extensive selection of whisky, port, cognac, sake, wine, and creative tropical drinks. The 27-foot beautifully carved koa wood bar, outdoor lanai, and intimate lounge seating areas make this a truly gorgeous setting in which to enjoy spending time with your date, as you listen to the nightly live contemporary music. You can also enjoy a game of pool, backgammon, or chess if you like!
Kauaʻi Island Brewing Company – Port Allen
The microbrewery movement is growing, and of course Kauaʻi’s got some local hometown brews for beer aficionados to try. At Kauaʻi Island Brewing Company, try your choice of ten house beers on tap, accompanied by some great pub food. They also have a keiki menu for the little ones, so this is a great way to get your bar fix in, as well as bring the kids along. Brewery tours are also available upon request!
Duke’s Barefoot Bar, Kalapaki Beach – Līhue
It’s a classic set-up: a relaxed bar right on a beautiful Hawaiian beach. You can’t say no to that! Enjoy tropical cocktails (they also have a great menu of virgin fruit-filled drinks), live Hawaiian music on the weekends, and a long romantic walk down the beach afterward for some privacy.
