There’s great food everywhere on the island of Kauaʻi, but sometimes you’re looking for a more luxurious dining experience, with incredible service and beautiful views. These five restaurants are poised to deliver! Find out about the best Kauai restaurants.
Tidepools Restaurant, Grand Hyatt – Poʻipū
Consistently honored as Kauaʻi’s most romantic restaurant from a number of sources, Tidepools is set right on the water at the Grand Hyatt. Enjoy your meal from inside a thatched-roof bungalow, atop a koi pond, at the base of a waterfall. What could be more romantic than that? The menu includes the freshest local fish and steak, prepared with island flair.
Eating House 1849 – Koloa
Here at Eating House 1849, a creation of Roy Yamaguchi (local pioneer of Pacific Rim cuisine), you can enjoy the simple yet elegant ambience of meals prepared in a way that plantation chefs of long ago might have cooked: with the freshest local ingredients, everything in season! Though it’s not on the coast, its’ second-floor location gives the Eating House a great view of the coastline, over the top of green fields. It’s a great place to catch the sunset with your dinner!
JO2 Natural Cuisine – Kapaʻa
If you like vegetarian delicacies, and knowing exactly where your food is coming from, then JO2 Natural Cuisine is your kind of luxury restaurant! It’s all about the food here, not the view, as they’re located in a strip mall. But once you’re inside, the delightful cuisine will take over your senses and make you forget you can’t see the sunset. JO2 is known for flavorful, creative local concoctions: and no, it’s not a vegetarian restaurant, but it is definitely jam-packed with vegetables, and is a great place to take a vegetarian out to delight them!
Gaylord’s at Kilohana – Līhue
Located in the historic Kilohana Plantation home, Gaylord’s offers one of Kauaʻi’s best settings for a beautiful and romantic meal. Diners are seated around an open-air courtyard, with views of Mt. Waiʻaleʻale in the distance. Gaylord’s offers a great Sunday brunch, so if you’re looking to celebrate a special Sunday with your family, this might just be the place for you! Ingredients are sourced largely from the restaurant’s 67-acre farm.
Red Salt at Koʻa Kea – Poʻipū
It’s all about the fish here in Hawaiʻi: we are in the middle of the Pacific Ocean, after all! Red Salt is an excellent place to get your seafood fix. Try the vanilla bean-seared mahi, the ahi tartare, or come on one of their specialty sushi bar nights. If you’re more of a breakfast person, check them out in the morning: their versions of breakfast classics, such as lobster benedict and lemon-pineapple soufflé pancakes, are sure to delight!
