Oʻahu Hiking

If you are looking for some of the great tropical climate hiking, look no further. Oʻahu hiking trails include some of the most diverse scenery and hiking to be found. Trek up to the top of Diamond Head for some stellar city views, traverse through jungle and bamboo forest to beautiful Mānoa Falls, or take a leisurely coastal day hike. No matter your experience level, Oʻahu hiking has something just for you. Read on for the best hikes on O’ahu.

Oʻahu Hiking Trails

Oʻahu hiking trails are numerous, most of them being easy to moderate day hikes.
The historic Diamond Head Trail is a relatively easy uphill trek. With a viewing platform at the top, you’ll be treated to a fantastic panoramic view of Honolulu, the Ko‘olau Range, and the Pacific. For WWII buffs, the Sunset Pillbox Trail in Lanikai (also called the Ehukai Pillbox Trail) is a moderate O’ahu hike that takes you to two WWII pillboxes tucked into the cliffs above the North Shore coastline. If you are looking for a family-oriented O’ahu hiking trail, Waimea Falls Park has a great stroll leading to a 50-foot waterfall with great swimming. For the more adventurous, head to Ka‘ena Point Trail in Waialua for a moderately 3.5-mile trek across O‘ahu’s unspoiled western coastline.

Oʻahu Hiking Tours

There’s many O’ahu hiking tour companies, but here’s our favorites: Kahokule‘a Haiku of Hawaiian Hiking Company in Haleʻiwa is a Native Hawaiian educator born on O‘ahu. He has several treks taking you off the beaten path, and will share his in-depth knowledge of O‘ahu’s plants, culture, and history. For seasoned hikers, Hawaiian Hiking Company offers a 10-mile Kamanā Nui Valley hike that will take you down a remote ancient Hawaiian trail deep within the Ko‘olau Mountains. Lehiwa Tours in Honolulu is a Hawaiian family-run hiking business specializing in cultural immersion hikes on O‘ahu’s southeastern side. Oʻahu Nature Tours in Honolulu has some great full- and half-day waterfall hikes. Most tour companies also have private O’ahu hikes available.
