Nestled in Downtown Honolulu, Iolani Palace is an extravagant property from the 19th century that once served as the home of Hawaii’s last reigning monarchs, and also where Queen Liliuokalani was imprisoned when the Hawaiian monarchy was overthrown. The home has since been converted into a museum, where visitors and locals and go on guided or self-guided audio tours and explore a range of incredible exhibits.

 

There are several things to keep in mind as you plan your visit to Iolani Palace in Hawaii. The dress code forbids bathing suits and beachwear, as well as clothing with profanity. Shirts and shoes are required, and additional mandatory shoe coverings are also provided onsite. Additionally, children under the age of 5 are free, but must stay at all times in either a stroller provided by the palace for free or worn in a front-held infant or child carrier worn by an adult.

 

Iolani Palace is open to visitors on Monday through Saturday, with daily hours from 9:00am – 4:00pm. The last admission tickets are sold at 3:45pm. Iolani Palace is closed to visitors on national holidays, including New Year’s Day, President’s Day, Memorial Day, Independence Day, Labor Day, Thanksgiving, and Christmas Day.

 

Admission prices for the palace depend on age, military status, and residency, with discounts available for groups of 10 or more people. Groups of 10 or more must provide at least 4 weeks’ notice in advance. Prices range from as little as $6.00 for children ages 5 years to 12 years to $27.00 per adult. Additional fees are charged for the basement gallery exhibits.
