Rated the number one restaurant in Kailua-Kona by Trip Advisor, their barbeque ribs are their claim to fame. Juicy, tender, and sliding easily off the bone, you can enjoy a half-rack of baby back ribs with rice, coleslaw, and a pineapple slice for $16. TJ’s also offers half-pound burgers, such as the Volcano Burger with cowboy rub, jalapenos, and their own homemade sauce. Can’t get enough of the Big Island’s Kona Coffee? Try combining your love for coffee and burgers with the Kona Cowboy burger, made with their own homemade Kona Coffee rub.

Originally from Washington State, the owners fell in love with the big island and decided to move their love for barbeque across the ocean in 2013. If you want to try your hand at adding these flavors to your own cooking, you can bring a taste of TJ’s Barbeque by the Beach home by purchasing some of their amazing sauces. Try their Honey BBQ Sauce, Kona Coffee Cowboy Rub, Prime Rib/Steak Sauce, or Spicy Kona Coffee Cowboy Rub. These are also available on their website.
Location
TJ’s Barbeque by the Beach is located at Alii Garden Marketplace in Kailua-Kona at 75-6129 Alii Drive, with a walk-up order counter and green metal roof. There’s a grassy area with picnic tables for you to stay and enjoy your lunch, or you can take it to go. Alii Garden Marketplace also has other shops with locally made goods for you to browse, such as Kona Natural Soap Co., Ferrari Coffee, Ohana Casual Wear, Melba’s Gluten Free Vegan Bakery, Robert Thomas Art Gallery, and Big Island Kettle Corn.
