Lucky you! You’ve met the person of your dreams, and now you are ready to pop the big question. What more romantic place to propose than the beautiful island of Maui? Imagine taking in a beautiful sunset on the beach under swaying palm trees or enjoying a romantic dinner ocean side to the sweet strains of Hawaiian melodies. How about presenting the ring during a romantic helicopter ride for two? Maybe a romantic waterfall is the perfect spot. The possibilities for an amazing proposal are endless on Maui, so we’ve come up with our five favorite Maui proposal spots on the Valley Isle.

Mama’s Fish House

Of all the restaurants on Maui, Mama’s Fish House on Maui’s north shore is far and away the tops for romantic ambiance. Set right on the beach at Ku‘au Cove, lit by soft lighting and tiki torches, you can treat your special person to some of the most fresh, delectable food on the island while gentle waves lap the shore and lilting Hawaiian melodies carry on the air.

Haleakalā Summit

Rising to an impressive 10,023 feet above sea level, the summit of Haleakalā with its spectacular views and unique landscape of airbrushed colors is an unforgettable environment in which to become engaged. Head up early in the morning for the most incredible sunrise you will ever experience. Native Hawaiian cultural practitioners herald the dawning of the new day by sounding the conch shell; this could be the time and place to herald the dawning of a new life chapter for you and your loved one.

Heavenly Hāna

Few places are as romantic as Hāna. With countless waterfalls, lush tropical jungle, and stunning ocean views, Hāna is truly the epitome of a romantic escape. Surprise your partner during an intimate dinner at the most romantic hotel on the island, Travassa Hana, Maui. Hike to one of the area’s many waterfall pools and present the ring. Or pop the question during a horseback ride across the most gorgeous scenery on Maui.

Keawakapu Beach

At the northern end of Kīhei you’ll find the velevety white sands of Keawakapu Beach. This incredible beach is popular for weddings, and has some of the most awe-inspiring views on the island. While taking in a beautiful sunset, go ahead and ask the big question. After the hugs and kisses and jumping up and down, walk up the beach for a romantic dinner at Sarento’s restaurant.

Between its stunning sights, myriad of outdoor activities, and vibrant atmosphere, Maui is an ideal place to spend your Hawaiian vacation—especially if you plan on hitting the town at night! We put together a brief list of some of the best parties in Maui. See them for yourself below!

The Best of Maui Nightlife

Where your journey into Maui’s bar and club scene will take you will all depend on what sort of atmosphere you’re interested in.

If it’s a laid-back, fuss free night out that you’re looking for, go where the locals go: Kahale’s. While this bar won’t impress you with its looks—it’s a dive bar, after all—it’s a popular place with residents for its friendly vibe, insanely long happy hour (from 10:00am to 5:00pm), and its live Hawaiian music offerings. Another dive bar worth going to is Moose McGillycuddy’s in Lahaina. Simultaneously serving as a bar and nightclub, this pub gives off a sports-bar type feel, yet also has a dance floor.

While it’s not a dive bar, Haui’s Life’s a Beach bar is an ideal beachside bar for relaxing and hanging out with a beer while munching on basic bar food. Their enormous cocktails, such as the 32-ounce mai tai for $6.00 during happy hour, are a steal.

For that classic tiki lounge experience, Maui has a number of spots you can check out. South Shore Tiki Lounge borders on kitschy with its décor, but also serves up fantastic tropical cocktails and fresh-spun tunes from DJs starting at 10:00pm. Lahaina Mai Tai Lounge and Dining is another tiki lounge, but is often cited as one of the most elegant tiki lounges in the area, with rooftop dining, incredible sunset views of the Lahaina Harbor, and of course, excellent mai tai cocktails!

Those in search of a drink with a view (without the tiki atmosphere) should try Mulligans on the Blue in Wailea. An Irish pub setting on Maui’s southern coast, Mulligans has an authentic pub interior, live nightly jazz music, and stunning views of the ocean from their lanai.

Club-goers will greatly enjoy the inventive cocktails and electric ambiance of Maui’s many nightclubs. Some of the best in the area include Ambrosia Martini Lounge and Charley’s Restaurant and Saloon, as well as the upscale club located inside of the Ritz-Carlton Kapalua called Alaloa Lounge. Just be sure you dress up for Alaloa Lounge and enjoy their creative cocktails and variety of beer!
