MiloliʻI Vacation Rentals

Our MiloliʻI Vacation Rentals

At the southernmost end of the Kona Coast lies the little Hawaiian fishing village of Miloliʻi. It’s often called “the last Hawaiian fishing village,” and it is certainly one of the few places where people still subsist off the ocean today. It’s an hour and a half drive from Kailua-Kona, so this is the place to stay if you want to be far, far away from the bustle of city life. Choose one of our beautiful MiloliʻI vacation rentals and experience the seaside life of old Hawaiʻi! While seaside, Miloliʻi village doesn’t have much of a sandy beach. However, nearby Honomalino Beach is very nice.

To reach the salt and pepper sands of Honomalino Beach, you’ll take a brief drive followed by a short hike through rainforest and old lava flows. Due to its location off the beaten path, you will enjoy fewer crowds on this half mile crescent stretch of sand. Thick groves of high palm trees back the beach, standing as a striking green against the dark sand. The water at Honomalino Beach is often calm in the mornings, perfect for a swim. On some mornings, pods of dolphins can be seen swimming in the waters offshore. At high tide, a natural blowhole puts on quite a show in the lava rocks along the south end of the beach. As waves crash along the rocks, a jet of water shoots through the lava tube, spraying up into the air. Blowholes can make for great photo opportunities, although a safe distance should always be maintained. As you enjoy the beautiful Honomalino Beach during your stay in one of our Big Island home rentals, remember to be respectful of local residents, sacred sites, and the health of the reef, and leave no trace.

There are no services in Miloliʻi; the nearest grocery store is in Ocean View, which is approximately a 30-minute drive. Here you’ll also find several restaurant options, including a couple of pizza eateries and a popular bar & grill serving up excellent fish & chips, burgers, and seafood plates. Miloliʻi is a great choice if you’re looking for a quiet seaside place to just kick back and relax! In order to visit anyplace else, you’ll have a bit of a drive. Ka Lae (South Point) is also about a 30-minute drive away; come here to marvel at the sheer sea cliffs that drop into deep ocean water. It’s an unusual and special place to visit. Volcanoes National Park is about an hour’s drive from here; spend a day hiking and exploring this popular and excellent park. Heading north instead towards Kona, you’ll be able to check out coffee farms and roadside fruit stands on your way towards the many beaches and attractions of the Kona Coast. Ohana Farm Orchards in South Kona is worth a stop to try some of their macadamia nut products. This family owned and operated farm contains 650 macadamia nut trees, from which they pick, husk, crack, dehydrate, flavor, and package them all onsite. They offer a variety of dry roasted macadamia nut products, as well as ice creams such as chocolate macadamia nut, lilikoi, and Kona coffee.

Miloliʻi is a rare and special place to get away from it all, where time moves slowly, everyday life is simple, and each day is meant to be savored.
